Bonding glass windows directly to a steel hull replaces traditional bolted aluminum frames on the 43-year-old fishing trawler *Brupeg*. Bolted frames often suffer from corrosion, whereas bonded windows allow for structural flex and provide a UV-stable, watertight seal. Survey requirements for bonded glass typically mandate a 30mm overlap between the glass and the steel substrate; the *Brupeg* project uses a 50mm overlap for added strength. The installation utilizes 10mm toughened marine glass, which is required for forward-facing windows to withstand potential green water impacts. The process involves cleaning the glass with methylated spirits, applying Fixtech 200 flexible adhesive, and using masking tape to create a clean, uniform sealant bead. Because the glass lacks a black ceramic border, the adhesive must be applied carefully to avoid visible air bubbles. The project also includes installing insulation in the cabin roof and wiring new winch control boxes with isolated negative circuits to prevent hull electrolysis.
