What this video covers
Refitting the 38-ft boat *Squib* involves extensive deck preparation, hull repairs, and custom woodwork ahead of a planned departure in six weeks. Peter and Sabina focus on sanding and fairing the foredeck and side decks to prepare for painting, while also addressing structural gaps in custom-built wooden rub rails. To seal these gaps, Peter injects a mixture of sawdust and low-viscosity epoxy, repeating the process multiple times to ensure complete saturation before sanding the surfaces flush. The crew also removes hardware, including railing stanchions, to facilitate sanding; in one instance, Peter extracts a stubborn bolt by applying upward pressure with screwdrivers to counter a spinning, inaccessible backing nut. Additionally, the team creates templates for new cockpit flooring using plastic sheeting and prepares a tablet mount for navigation using the Navionics app. Despite temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, the project continues with hull patching and final surface preparation for priming and painting.
