THE FLOOR: INTERIOR FINISHED

What this video covers

The owner of a sailboat undergoing a multi-year refit installs vinyl flooring throughout the interior to replace painted surfaces. To ensure a flush finish, the flooring is applied directly over the existing floorboards without recessing, utilizing the material's thickness to achieve a level surface. The process involves using vinyl adhesive, allowing 25 minutes for the glue to set, and trimming the edges with a utility knife after the material is fully bonded. The owner notes that the vinyl provides better traction than the previous varnished wood, which was slippery when wet. Additionally, the project includes installing a 100-micron stainless steel mesh filter on the fuel line to act as a pre-filter before the primary water separator and engine fuel filter. This filter is easily cleaned with a brush and solvent. The interior refit concludes with the installation of cushions, completing a two-and-a-half-year renovation project in preparation for a hull thickness survey and upcoming sea trials.
