Character

Where this design lands on the numbers a shopper trusts — read straight from her own ratios.

TrailerableBeam 2.26 m — inside the 2.55 m no-permit tow width across most of Europe, and the 2.59 m US and Canadian limit. About 1,814 kg of hull, so roughly 2,400 kg on a trailer: check that against your own towing rating.Shoal draftDraws 1.14 m, board up where she has one — creeks, sandbars and thin anchorages most keels have to stay out of.
LivelySea-kindly

Her heavy displacement on a moderate beam gives 23 — a moderate, middle-of-the-road motion.

Comfort ratio 23
CoastalBluewater

1.87 — just under the 2.0 offshore line; her beam is modest for her weight.

Capsize screening 1.87
LightHeavy

363 — very heavy for her waterline, a serious load-carrying cruiser.

Displacement / length 363
EasygoingPowered-up

15.3 — moderate power for her weight; steady, all-round performance.

Sail area / displacement 15.3
TenderStiff

58% of her weight is ballast — very stiff, carrying full sail in a blow.

Ballast 58%

A capable cruiser that sits just inside the offshore line — coastal work with real passages in her.

  • Narrower than ~80% of boats her size on file

What the fleet has seen

The Hurley 22, as the fleet has seen it

Derived from the videos the fleet has analysed of this model. ▶ marks open the moment aboard.

The Hurley 22 is a 6.7-meter masthead sloop designed by Ian L. Anderson and built from 1966 to 1990 by several manufacturers, including A.G. Hurley Marine Ltd., South Coast Marine, and Ravensail. It was Hurley Marine's most popular model, offered with fin or bilge keels, and some versions had different rudder shapes and mast lengths. A Hurley 22 named *Breezy*, recovered after sinking on its mooring at Port Navas, weighed two tonnes at a Truro Recycling weighbridge, double common internet estimates for the model.3:14 The boat was transported by road for disposal, costing over £1,000, as fiberglass boats in the UK are currently landfilled due to a lack of domestic recycling options.8:20
