The Newport 30-3 is a Gary Mull-designed masthead sloop built by Capital Yachts Inc. and Capital Yachts Corp. from 1984 to the present, intended as a more cruising-oriented version of the earlier Newport 30 models. It features a fin keel with a spade rudder, measures 9.1 meters LOA with a 3.2-meter beam and 1.6-meter draft, and displaces 3855 kg. Standard equipment includes wheel steering and diesel power. Aboard *Odyssey*, a 1987 Newport 30 Mark 3, a Roam Devices Marine Monitor Hub was installed to track battery voltage, GPS position, and bilge status, demonstrating the boat's suitability for modern remote monitoring systems.6:28 The installation involved routing wires through molded floor liners, and the system successfully triggered a phone notification within five to six seconds during high-water alarm testing.9:34
