The St FRANCIS 44 is a 13.4-meter fractional sloop catamaran designed by Angelo Lavranos and built by St. Francis Marine between 1999 and 2005, updating the St. Francis 43 design. It features a twin keel hull, a 7.2-meter beam, 0.9-meter draft, and 7000 kg displacement, with a main sail area of 62.8 m2 and a genoa of 36.6 m2. Aboard Sam Holmes Sailing, a St FRANCIS 44 completed a 100-mile passage to Luperon, Dominican Republic, involving extensive upwind tacking and spinnaker use in light winds. The crew installed an Orca tablet as a backup chart plotter, noting its physical buttons but less detailed charts compared to Navionics.6:55 Aboard The Lazy Geckos ™, a St FRANCIS 44 underwent a renaming ceremony and an air conditioning system installation at Beach Marine in St. Augustine, Florida, including a new water pump and three directional vents.15:15 The crew ran aground entering the marina, underscoring the need to check local tides.4:17
