The St FRANCIS 44 is a 13.4-meter fractional sloop catamaran designed by Angelo Lavranos and built by St. Francis Marine from 1999 to 2005, updating the St. Francis 43 design. It features a twin keel hull, a 7.2-meter beam, a 0.9-meter draft, and displaces 7000 kg. Its main sail area is 62.8 square meters, with a genoa of 36.6 square meters. Aboard *Sam Holmes Sailing*, a St FRANCIS 44 completed a 100-mile passage from an inlet bay to Luperon, Dominican Republic, involving upwind tacking and spinnaker use in light winds.11:14 The crew installed an Orca tablet as a backup chart plotter, noting its physical buttons were useful but its native charts lacked the detail of Navionics.6:36 The passage underscored the need for detailed charts in navigating harbor entrances and the maintenance demands of older cruising catamarans.14:49
