The Laser 2 is a 4.4-meter fractional sloop dinghy designed by F. Bethwaite and I. Bruce, built from 1978 to 1987 by Vanguard Sailboats and Performance Sailcraft. It displaces 77 kg and has a draft of 1.1 meters. The Laser 2, with variants like the Laser II Fun and Laser II Regatta, was retired before 1990; the Laser Fun New Wave variant added an asymmetrical spinnaker. Aboard *Wicked Salty*, Wes and Kate sailed a Laser 2 on Lake Sunapee, practicing tacking and managing aggressive heeling.0:18 The Laser 2 is a larger version of the single-handed Laser, adding a jib and spinnaker, and serves as a transition platform for sailors moving to sloop-rigged keelboats.8:52
