The Open 5.00 is a 5.0-meter fractional sloop with a rotating spar and a swing keel, designed by Jean Marie Finot (Groupe Finot) and built by Philias Boats and Open Sailing Inc. since 2000. This 263 kg displacement sailboat has a 2.2-meter beam and a 1.6-meter draft, featuring an asymmetrical spinnaker on a sprit measuring 258 square feet. Professional sailor Ronnie Simpson prepared his 1994 Open 50 race boat, *Shipyard Brewing*, for the Global Solo Challenge, undertaking extensive refits including a carbon deck, new rigging, and a Victron electrical system.6:40 Simpson completed a 2,000-mile solo qualifier from Maryland to Bermuda and Maine to test the boat's performance, utilizing Dyneema strops and continuous furlers for gennakers.3:12 Graham Dalton, a Golden Globe Race entrant, previously campaigned an Open 50 for the Velux 5 Oceans race.11:01
