We Tried a €130 Turbo From AliExpress… It Actually Worked! Volvo Penta D2-75 [Ep.13]

28 March 2026 · 27 min · 5K views · Sicily

What this video covers

The owners of Oceanaire | Wik & Rox, a sailboat currently in a Sicily marina, addressed a seized wastegate on their Volvo Penta D2-75 engine by sourcing a €130 aftermarket turbocharger from AliExpress.Watch After failing to free the original wastegate through professional sandblasting and pressing, the crew opted to salvage the exhaust housing from the inexpensive unit to replace the seized component on their existing turbo.20:31 The installation required minor modifications to the exhaust elbow to prevent the wastegate actuator from binding against the casting. The crew also replaced a corroded stainless steel exhaust elbow with a new CNC-machined unit and installed a new exhaust hose.1:04 While the AliExpress turbo is intended for a Perkins-based tractor engine, the exhaust housing proved compatible with the D2-75.21:06 The crew noted the risk of using unverified turbo components, specifically the potential for bearing failure leading to engine oil ingestion, but deemed the low boost pressure of 0.6 bar an acceptable risk for this application.23:59
