What this video covers

The crew of the sailboat *Sylvia* navigates from Savo Island across the Iron Bottom Sound to the northern coast of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands to locate and dive two World War II shipwrecks.9:10 After securing permission from local village landowners, the crew dives the Japanese I-1 submarine, which lies on a slope between 10 and 25 meters.9:26 The submarine, a 300-foot vessel, was rammed and driven onto a reef by the New Zealand minesweepers *Kiwi* and *Moa* during a night engagement.10:41 A subsequent attempt by salvagers in the 1960s to breach the hull with an unexploded depth charge caused a secondary explosion that destroyed the submarine's bow.11:44 The crew also locates and dives a shallow B-17 Flying Fortress wreck nearby, which remains largely intact with its turret visible.13:25 The aircraft crashed after a combat engagement with Japanese Zeros, and historical accounts suggest the crew survived the initial ditching but did not survive on land.15:18
