Reinforcement Finished! Starting the Side Decks at Last - Ep. 448 RAN Sailing

What this video covers

Johan reinforces the shroud bulkheads on the boat by tabbing them with carbon fiber and vacuum bagging the laminates. He prepares the surfaces by sanding sapele wedges for fillets and wiping the area clean to ensure a strong secondary bond. Because of the complex geometry, he performs the lamination in two separate vacuum bagging sessions, one for each side of the bulkhead. Once cured, he reinstalls the head and shower area bulkhead, bonding it with epoxy and cutting access holes for future locker storage and chain plate maintenance. He then shifts focus to the side decks, creating digital cutting files for the foam core. He divides the seven-meter-long side deck panels into three sections to accommodate his five-meter workbench, which he plans to extend. He intends to pre-laminate the panels on the table rather than on the boat, using G10 inserts for stanchions and mid-cleats, and plans to build up solid glass areas for the headsail tracks in two stages.
