What this video covers
The crew of the fiberglass sailboat Viento Del Mar navigated the waters between Komodo Island and Gili Gede, Indonesia, during a multi-stop coastal passage. While anchored in the Komodo region, the crew prevented chain damage to coral reefs by attaching fenders to the anchor chain to lift it off the seabed.38:25 The route included stops at Wera, where local builders construct traditional wooden phinisi boats using wooden dowels instead of metal fasteners, and Kilo, where the crew anchored in 18 meters of water near a black sand beach. At Satonda Island, the crew anchored to visit a volcanic crater lake. During a passage toward Lombok, the crew reefed the mainsail and jib to reduce speed to three knots to accommodate a scheduled commitment. Navigation along the north coast of Lombok required constant vigilance to avoid fish aggregating devices (FADs) and extensive, poorly marked fishing nets. The journey concluded at Gili Air, an island restricted to horse carts and electric scooters, before reaching the final destination at Marina del Rey on Gili Gede.
