What this video covers
The crew of the catamaran Mistertong, anchored at Sainte-Anne, Martinique, performs emergency maintenance on their electric marine toilet system after experiencing slow drainage. The blockage stems from heavy calcium and mineral buildup within the discharge hoses and the multi-way valve, a common issue caused by the reaction between saltwater and urine. Djé removes the discharge lines and the multi-way valve, scraping out significant calcified deposits that had restricted flow and seized the valve mechanism. After reassembling the components and ensuring the valve is correctly positioned, the system regains proper drainage function. The repair takes approximately two and a half hours in high-heat conditions within the boat's hull. Outside of maintenance, the crew observes high concentrations of sea turtles in the anchorage, though poor water clarity and administrative tasks prevent planned snorkelling and hull sanding. The boat experiences high internal temperatures reaching 36°C in the salon during a period of calm, humid weather. Regular maintenance of discharge hoses with white vinegar helps prevent, but does not entirely eliminate, the accumulation of mineral scale in saltwater-flushed heads.
