#38 Learning how to hunt Lionfish 😱😱

What this video covers

The crew of the catamaran Mistertong hunts invasive lionfish using a five-pronged spear, known as a fouenne, while anchored in the Caribbean. To safely handle the venomous spines, they use pliers to remove the dorsal and pectoral fins before cleaning the fish for ceviche. They developed a containment system using a sealed plastic container with a bung to store the speared fish underwater, which also serves as a visual marker for other boaters. During a multi-day stay, the crew manages routine maintenance, including cleaning sink seals and addressing corrosion on gas bottle supports. The owner struggles with intermittent connectivity between the onboard Garmin system and an iPad Pro, specifically failing to display depth data on external screens. After departing for Le Marin, the crew tests sail trim in 15 to 18 knots of wind, achieving speeds between 3.8 and 4.5 knots. They plan to refine their sail settings during future passages as weather permits.
