What this video covers
Max upgrades the boat's Victron VE.Direct monitoring system by replacing unreliable USB-to-TTL adapters with DSD Tech cables. Previous connection failures and intermittent data loss stemmed from counterfeit Prolific chips, which shared identical serial numbers and caused conflicts when multiple devices were connected to a Raspberry Pi. The DSD Tech adapters feature authentic Prolific chips with unique serial numbers, ensuring stable communication between solar charge controllers, SmartShunts, and the onboard computer. Because these connectors have a wide housing that can strain adjacent USB ports on a Raspberry Pi, the use of 20–30 cm USB extension cables is recommended to prevent physical damage. For complex setups involving multiple peripherals, a custom interface developed by Simone provides a galvanically isolated solution that consolidates four VE.Direct connections into a single USB output. This interface eliminates the need for manual soldering and includes optional 3D-printable enclosure files for a clean installation. Using high-quality, certified adapters with unique serial numbers prevents data dropouts in multi-device Victron monitoring networks.
