What this video covers
The refit of the vessel Squib involves relocating a seawater intake, finalizing cockpit roof support pedestals, and refurbishing the mast tabernacle. To address pump air-intake issues caused by high seas, the crew relocates the through-hull fitting to a lower position, requiring the old hole to be patched. The repair process involves grinding the surrounding area down to the laminate, sealing the edges with epoxy, and laminating layers of fiberglass cloth from the outside. Once cured, the interior is sanded and reinforced.
Simultaneously, the crew removes stainless steel cockpit roof supports to sand and reshape the mounting pedestals, ensuring clean edges before painting. The mast tabernacle is also sanded and prepped; despite being mounted six years prior, the underlying iron remains rust-free due to the effective use of Butyl sealant. The project concludes with extensive sanding of filled surfaces and walls in preparation for priming, utilizing an angle grinder, delta sander, and power file to manage the fiberglass and filler work.
