Alcort Catfish SMEDLEY Hull Repair
16 June 2024 · 5 min · 80 views
What this video covers
Kent Blair repairs structural damage to an Alcort Catfish catamaran after the hull sustained punctures during transport.0:09 The boat bounced on a trailer roller inside a shipping container, punching holes through the thin fiberglass and dislodging internal closed-cell flotation foam.0:40 To access the interior, Blair cuts an additional hole in the hull to reposition the foam block. He secures the block using expanding foam as an adhesive. For the fiberglass repair, he applies a backer patch of fiberglass mat coated in TotalBoat ThickSet Pro epoxy to the interior of the hull. He wedges the patch against the damaged area using the foam block and a temporary support. Once the interior patch cures, Blair plans to reinstall the original cutout piece, fair the exterior surface, and finish the hull with paint or gel coat. He intends to repeat this process for a secondary crease in the hull.
