We Tested 4 Renogy Solar Panels & One Panel survived the shade! | Sailing Sunday

21 June 2025 · 10 min · 11K views

What this video covers

Renogy 200-watt N-type, standard rigid, and Shadow Flux solar panels were tested for efficiency and shading performance using a 60-amp MPPT charge controller.▶ 0:15 The N-type panels feature a 16-bus-bar design, which allows for better current flow and higher efficiency than standard 5- or 9-bus-bar panels when partially shaded.▶ 1:15 During testing, a strip of shade across the bottom of the N-type panels yielded 47 watts, whereas standard panels dropped to zero.▶ 3:10 The Renogy Shadow Flux panels, which incorporate diodes in each cell to prevent total circuit cutoff, demonstrated the highest performance under shade.▶ 5:17 A towel placed across the centre of the Shadow Flux panels resulted in 51 watts of output, compared to 9–10 watts for the other models.▶ 6:01 While standard and N-type panels lose significant power when partially obstructed, the Shadow Flux technology maintains higher output by isolating shaded cells rather than disabling entire rows.▶ 8:50
