The Henry R. Hinckley Sou'wester 42/43 is a Masthead Sloop designed by McCurdy, Rhodes, built by Henry R. Hinckley, Co. and Hinckley Yachts from 1982 to 2006. With an LOA of 13.0 meters, a beam of 3.8 meters, and a displacement of 10886 kg, the model features a fin keel with a rudder on a skeg. Most Sou'wester 42/43s were custom-built, leading to variations in keel, rudder, and transom configurations, including a shoal draft option of 1.52 meters. A MKII version was introduced in 1995.1:11 The Hinckley Sou'wester 51 *Momentum*, a 1993 performance cruiser, was built with a custom Kevlar hull, making it 3,000 pounds lighter than sister ships. *Momentum* was originally designed by Ted Hood and Dieter Empacher with a 9-foot-6-inch draft for ocean racing, later modified by Jim Taylor to a 7-foot-6-inch draft for improved access.5:29 Its owner upgraded it for short-handed sailing with a Leisure Furl system, cockpit-led electric winches, and a wired remote for the mainsheet.7:22 A carbon mast replacement reduced weight by 450 pounds and increased height by five feet, adding 115 square feet of sail area. *Momentum* has completed five Bermuda races and a transatlantic passage from Bermuda to Troon, Scotland, maintaining high performance in light and medium air.9:03
