Construction of the aluminum expedition catamaran, SV Delos 2.0, reaches the 12-week mark with the hull nearly complete and ready for a scheduled flip.Watch Fabricators installed the final hull plates after completing internal welding, using large circulation fans and air-supplied helmets to mitigate toxic aluminum welding fumes.2:17 To prevent buckling on 4mm topside plates, the team distributed heat by frequently shifting welding positions.3:19 When two plates cracked during a 90-degree bend at a local shop, the crew repaired them with additional welds and grinding, noting that a minimum bending radius of six times the material thickness is required to avoid stress fractures.9:53 The team also selected Hollypan 17mm honeycomb composite for the interior flooring after comparing weight, compression strength, and cost against plywood and other alternatives.16:43 This choice saves approximately 177 kilograms compared to the designer-specified plywood.18:46 The project remains on schedule for the upcoming hull flip.10:55
