The crew of the *Millennial Falcon* navigates the fjords of western Iceland, specifically targeting hot springs near Trostansfjorda.1:03 While anchored in a shallow, tidal bay, the vessel encounters significant amounts of kelp, which repeatedly trips the windlass breaker during retrieval.2:42 The crew notes that the anchorage shelves rapidly and experiences an onshore breeze, creating uncomfortable fetch even in light winds.9:56 They emphasize the necessity of timing departures with high tide to avoid grounding in the shallow, floodplain-like basin.15:12
Technical challenges include a lack of adjustable jib cars, which forces the crew to reef the headsail rather than optimize sail shape for windward performance.4:37 Additionally, cold temperatures in the region cause frequent failures in camera and drone equipment, including brittle plastic mounts and battery malfunctions.16:44 During a transit between fjords, the crew encounters a pod of orcas and a seal, noting the contrast between these coastal sightings and offshore wildlife encounters.18:11 The experience highlights the difficulty of capturing Icelandic scenery due to rapidly changing weather, persistent fog, and equipment sensitivity to the cold.
