The Leopard 58 is a 17.6-meter fractional sloop catamaran, designed by Simonis Voogd Design and built by Robertson, Caine from 2011 to the present, primarily for the charter trade, where it is also marketed as the MOORINGS 5800. It has a twin keel hull, an 8.5-meter beam, a 1.8-meter draft, and displaces 28,000 kg. Its notable features include a 1-meter bridgedeck clearance, a 129.0 m² mainsail, and a 58.0 m² genoa, with a load capacity of 8,500 kg. Aboard *Sailing Big Lost*, a family initially chose a 62-foot Leopard for its superior maintenance history and Caribbean location over a Privilege 585, appreciating the flybridge for increased cockpit space and visibility.36:23 However, after nine months and 4,000 nautical miles, they found the 62-foot Leopard too large and complex, with excessive space including five heads and six televisions, leading to high maintenance demands.4:32 The crew decided to sell their Leopard 62, citing safety concerns due to the workload on two adults during passages, and sought a simpler catamaran under 50 feet with three to four cabins, capable of single-handed blue-water passages.24:21
