The O'day 23-2 is a 6.9-meter masthead sloop with a keel/centerboard hull, designed by C. Raymond Hunt Assoc. and built by O'Day Corp. from 1978 to 1984. It displaces 1553 kg and has a 2.4-meter beam and 1.6-meter draft.25:26 The model was a popular design, produced for over ten years, and also built in Brazil under the same name. Aboard the *Conquista*, an O'day 23-2, a sailor experienced a total loss off Vitória, Brazil, when the boat capsized in moderate winds and heavy swell, trapping the crew in an air pocket before they escaped.12:40 This incident led the sailor to prefer robust, classic-style sailboats with skeg-protected rudders, emphasizing structural integrity and minimal cockpit windage for offshore safety.42:11 Another sailor, Tadeu, trained on an O'day 23 before upgrading to a larger catamaran for an Atlantic circumnavigation.6:15 The O'day 23 was among the models produced by the Mariner shipyard in Brazil, which built approximately 4,000 boats before facing economic challenges.3:14
