The O'day 23-2 is a masthead sloop with a keel/centerboard hull, designed by C. Raymond Hunt Assoc. and built by O'Day Corp. from 1978 to 1984. This 6.9-meter sailboat was one of O'Day's most popular models, also produced in Brazil. Aboard *Conquista*, an O'day 23-2, Juliano experienced a capsize off Vitória, Brazil, in moderate winds and heavy swell, leading him to prioritize robust, classic sailboat designs with skeg-protected rudders for offshore safety.14:50 He noted that excessive solar arrays and biminis can compromise steering in heavy following seas.59:42 Another couple, seen on Hashtag Sal, transitioned to liveaboard life in Ubatuba, Brazil, starting with a 25-foot vessel before upgrading, emphasizing that smaller boats offer lower maintenance costs and less complexity.3:27 The O'day 23 was among the approximately 4,000 boats produced by the Mariner shipyard in Brazil.3:14
