The Tradewind Yachts 35 is a long-keel cutter designed by John Rock in the 1970s, with new boats still being built today. At least 70 of these 10.7-meter displacement yachts are thought to exist. Several Tradewind 35s have been prepared for the Golden Globe Race (GGR), a solo, non-stop circumnavigation. Étienne Messikommer’s *BERNARD* underwent an 18-month refit in Brittany, including a new mast with 10mm heavy-duty standing rigging and reinforced hull-to-deck connections.7:23 The cockpit of *BERNARD* features a modified tiller-steering system and an ergonomic layout for single-handed sail handling.11:15 A Tradewind 35 completed a coastal delivery from Dover to Dartmouth in light winds, with the crew reporting good handling and a comfortable interior.9:44 Gunnar Christensen, a 2026 GGR entrant, considers the Tradewind 35 for its durability, despite past reports of mast damage during knockdowns.31:51 David Scott Cowper is also refitting a Tradewind 35 for the GGR.4:57
