The Baltic Yachts 55 DP is a 16.8-meter masthead sloop designed by Doug Peterson and built by Baltic Yachts between 1984 and 1989. It features a fin keel with a spade rudder, a 4.9-meter beam, a 2.2-meter draft, and displaces 17,499 kg. Aboard *practicalboatowner*, skipper Campbell Mackie prepared the Baltic 55 DP *Outlaw* for the Ocean Globe Race with a 12-month refit in upstate New York, which involved removing the keel and mast, gutting the interior, and installing new wiring.0:38 Mackie purchased the boat sight unseen in 2021 and departed the United States in May 2023 with a crew aged 23 to 73, none of whom had sailed together previously.0:25 Mackie, the oldest participant in the race, aimed to round Cape Horn and used celestial navigation.6:08
