What this video covers

Christian Williams is replacing the sole of his boat in Southern California, a project currently in its 27th day.0:29 The installation requires custom-cut Teak and Holly plywood, a process complicated by the specific design of the floorboards.0:29 Due to this ongoing maintenance, the boat remains in its slip throughout December.0:37 During this downtime, Williams discusses his own writing, including his books *Alone Together* and *Philosophy of Sailing*, which detail his experiences with long-distance solo voyaging across the North Pacific.2:11 He also describes his novel *Rarotonga*, centered on a protagonist who disappears in a 60-foot luxury yacht.3:15 While the varnishing stage of the floorboard project nears completion, the installation remains pending.4:28
