Sailboat glides across blue water, leaving white wake
What this video covers
Chris and Karmen prepare to move aboard their Beneteau 57, Vanishing Point, at a California marina, completing several boat projects in the weeks before the transition. The interior oven door glass on their Eno stove shattered; replacement glass for the older-style door — which used a notched pane retained by a brass screw — was unavailable domestically, so Chris sourced a retrofit kit from a European supplier, drilled and tapped new bracket mounts, and reinstalled the stove.▶ 1:55 At the nav station, he installed an ORCA Technologies tablet-based navigation system built around the Core 2 hub, which connects via NMEA 2000 (using a SeaTalk adapter) and Ethernet to pull wind data, AIS, radar overlay, and autopilot control onto an Android tablet.▶ 4:42 The Core 2 mounts with double-sided tape in the aft lazarette; the tablet flush-mounts at the nav station and detaches by pulling a tab.▶ 5:41 The system connected to the boat's Starlink network for software updates and immediately displayed true wind speed, rudder angle, and AIS.▶ 9:18 Chris also plans to replace the existing Racor fuel filter with a Racor 500 glass-bowl model and build a fuel polishing system.▶ 13:04 Upcoming trips to Santa Cruz Island and other California Channel Islands will serve as sea trials for the new gear before the couple departs south in roughly two years.▶ 11:39
