What this video covers
The Queen's Baths tidal pools at Central Eleuthera, Bahamas, sit just across the Queen's Highway from a dinghy-accessible beach, reached by a five-minute walk on a shaded, well-worn trail. The sailboat Epiphany anchors in the adjacent anchorage alongside other cruisers; the dinghy is beached with a stern anchor to keep it off the sand as the tide drops.0:33 Timing matters: the pools expose as the tide recedes, and wave action at low-to-mid tide makes several pools dangerous to swim in — the rocks and coral described as a "meat grinder." The higher pools on the ocean-facing side are calmer and clearest; the lower pools still take wave action but are swimmable with care. In summer the pools reportedly reach hot-tub temperatures from solar heating. Sea urchins cover the pool floors, and small fish are trapped in the pools, fed by regular ocean overwash. A sea cave alcove above the main pools holds its own tidal pools, confirming regular ocean inundation. Visiting at a falling tide gives the calmest, most swimmable conditions.
