The Oyster 53 (HUMPHREYS) is a Rob Humphreys-designed masthead sloop built by Oyster Marine Ltd. and McDell Marine, with production beginning in 2000. It measures 16.4 meters LOA, with a 4.7-meter beam, 2.2-meter draft, and 21,772 kg displacement. Aboard *Sailing Millennial Falcon*, a crew preparing an Oyster 53 for a delivery from Annapolis to the British Virgin Islands encountered a failing 24-volt battery bank and fuel leaks from hairline cracks in the diesel tank inspection ports, which spilled into the bilge when the boat heeled.16:05 The crew replaced the batteries and repaired the tank cracks with J-B Weld Plastic Bond before departing again.17:57 The vessel motored through fog and heavy commercial traffic in the Chesapeake Bay to reach the Gulf Stream, maintaining a four-on, four-off watch schedule in restricted visibility and northerly winds.20:33
