The refit of the vessel Squib involves structural modifications to the galley, fuel system, and interior framing. To ensure future access to the refrigerator, the galley countertop is secured with hidden fasteners rather than permanent epoxy, allowing for complete removal if the unit requires replacement. A custom trim strip is fitted to the countertop, shaped to match the hull curvature and bonded with a mixture of epoxy, Aerosil, and Iroko dust.
Work on the fuel system includes mounting the diesel tank on the port side, shifted from its original position to accommodate a reserve fuel canister and improve access to the filler neck. The installation requires drilling mounting holes while ensuring clearance from the rudder hardware. Additionally, a bulkhead penetration is installed for the gas line, positioned to maintain distance from the stove while navigating structural deck beams. Interior progress includes priming wooden components and installing plywood strips to the ceiling to support future insulation and paneling.
