The Southerly 420 is a 12.9-meter fractional sloop with a swing keel, designed by Rob Humphreys and built by Northshore Yachts Ltd. from 2010. It displaces 11,799 kg and has a 4.0-meter beam and a 2.7-meter draft. Aboard *Distant Shores TV*, Paul and Sheryl Shard sailed a Southerly 42, an earlier model, through the shallow waters of the Crooked Acklands group in The Bahamas, using its variable-draft keel to beach the boat in one foot of water.1:02 They deployed a stern anchor before gently grounding the hull at two knots, then lowered the keel into the sand for stability and deployed a Delta anchor from the bow.1:44 The Southerly 420 later became the Southerly 430.
