The Amel Super Maramu 2000 is a 16.0-meter masthead ketch, built by Amel between 1999 and 2005, designed by Henry Amel and J. Carteau as an updated version of the 1989 Super Maramu. It features a wing keel, a 4.6-meter beam, a 2.0-meter draft, and displaces 16000 kg. The standard engine was a 78 HP Yanmar 4JH4-HE, with an optional 100 HP Yanmar 4JH3-HTE becoming standard in 2003; approximately 80% of the fleet uses the 100 HP engine. Naval architect Olivier Racampoux notes that modern yacht design, exemplified by newer Amel models like the Amel 55 and Amel 50, prioritizes crew comfort and interior volume, utilizing advanced modeling for structural and hydraulic integration.1:57 While older designs often used ketch rigs for easier sail handling, modern electric winches and in-mast furling enable efficient sloop configurations on smaller yachts.15:00
