The Pearson Yachts 36 is a 1972–1976 masthead sloop designed by William H. Shaw with the IOR 1 Ton Rule in mind, featuring a fin keel with a rudder on a skeg, an 11.1-meter LOA, and a 6123 kg displacement. The crew of the Pearson 36 *Uma* has undertaken extensive structural refits, including installing new marine plywood bulkheads, relocating the cockpit bulkhead 25 centimeters aft, and adding two additional layers of fiberglass to the hull interior to address dimpling and delamination issues near the rudder stops and lower shroud attachments.11:57 They also dropped the 6,000-pound lead keel to replace the original 12 bronze J-bolts with eight one-inch stainless steel bolts and reinforced the keel stub with seven layers of fiberglass after previous grounding damage caused the keel to wobble.35:49 A professional ultrasonic inspection of *Uma*'s hull revealed thicknesses between 7mm and 11mm, confirming the boat's structural soundness but identifying critical delamination in the chainplate attachments and structural knees that required reinforcement.13:55 Living aboard continuously since 2014, *Uma*'s owners operate with an electric propulsion system, prioritizing sail trim and precise anchoring due to limited battery capacity and the absence of a generator or wind turbine.14:35
