Character

Where this design lands on the numbers a shopper trusts — read straight from her own ratios.

TrailerableBeam 2.33 m — inside the 2.55 m no-permit tow width across most of Europe, and the 2.59 m US and Canadian limit. About 1,129 kg of hull, so roughly 1,750 kg on a trailer: check that against your own towing rating.Shoal draughtDraws 1.07 m, board up where she has one — creeks, sandbars and thin anchorages most keels have to stay out of.
LivelySea-kindly

Her light displacement on a moderate beam gives 12 — a quick, lively motion that feels every wave.

Comfort ratio 12
CoastalBluewater

2.26 — right around the 2.0 line, the edge between coastal and offshore.

Capsize screening 2.26
LightHeavy

154 — light for her waterline, so she is easily driven and quick to accelerate.

Displacement / length 154
EasygoingPowered-up

17.9 — moderate power for her weight; steady, all-round performance.

Sail area / displacement 17.9
TenderStiff

32% of her weight is ballast — on the tender side; she'll heel readily and want a reef sooner.

Ballast 32%

Light and lively — happiest day-sailing and coastal-hopping in settled weather.

The Catalina Yachts 22 MKII is a masthead sloop with a fin keel and transom-hung rudder, built by Catalina Yachts from 1995 to the present. Designed by Frank V. Butler, it is an upgraded version of the original Catalina 22, sharing the same hull design but produced from a new, fairer mold. The boat measures 7.3 meters LOA, has a beam of 2.3 meters, a draft of 1.1 meters, and displaces 1129 kg. A Catalina 22 Sport variant, released in 2003, was originally intended to be called the Capri 22 swing keel.8:56 The Catalina 22 MKII is available with a wing keel (2.5-foot draft) or a swing keel (2.0-foot draft up, 5.0-foot draft down).9:04 Aboard *Lady K Sailing*, the Catalina 22 Sport is noted for its high reliability, parts availability, and predictable handling, making it a straightforward choice for beginners.4:53 Trailerable models like the Catalina 22 allow owners to avoid marina fees and simplify maintenance, though they require significant setup time, including stepping the mast and rigging the boat before each outing.12:43
