The Dehler Yachts 34, originally named the Optima 106, is a 10.1-meter fractional sloop designed by E. G. Van de Stadt and built by Dehler from 1983 to 1993. This model, with a 3.4-meter beam and 1.8-meter draft, was conceived as a cruising-oriented version of the DB1-2 designs, built to the IOR 3/4 ton rule. The 2016 iteration of the Dehler 34, introduced at the Cannes Yachting Festival, revives the fast cruiser concept with a focus on both performance sailing and family comfort.0:14 It incorporates a carbon fiber structural grid, or "spider," for hull rigidity and features a wide-overlap hull-to-deck joint designed to prevent structural torsion and creaking.2:16 These construction methods aim to minimize maintenance and preserve structural integrity. The Dehler 34 was mentioned in a comparison where a 34-foot competitor was outperformed by a Heyman 42 PPH motorsailer during sea trials.0:46
