A ferry crossing to Patras, Greece, involved navigating a severe storm that forced the vessel to seek shelter behind the Corfu islands. Upon arriving in post-civil war Serbia, he encountered a region devastated by conflict, lacking electricity and basic infrastructure. He lived among local families, observing traditional customs such as the preparation of a dowry, known as a *prika*, and the transition toward universal literacy for the younger generation.
