What this video covers
Maya and Aladino, owners of a Cape George 36 named Magic Carpet, collaborate with artist Kelsey Oxenon in Ucluelet, British Columbia, to produce custom, hand-printed t-shirts.1:26 The project utilizes salvaged yew wood, which Oxenon carves with an illustration of the boat designed by Aladino.4:27 She burns the wood surface to create a relief stamp, where the soft summer growth recedes and the hard winter growth stands proud to hold ink.2:49 Each shirt is printed individually by hand using silkscreen ink on 100% cotton fabric.8:51 Because the wood grain absorbs ink differently with each application and requires periodic re-sanding and re-burning, every print is unique.11:47 The shirts are available in navy and sand, with shipping currently offered to the United States, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand from the artist's studio on the west coast of Vancouver Island.10:50
