What this video covers
Ben and MP perform maintenance on the mast of their boat, Yabá, while hauled out on a beach. The primary project involves installing a custom-fabricated stainless steel mast cap to resolve structural stress caused by the backstay and middle stay being mounted at different heights. The new cap consolidates the attachment points for both stays. Ben uses a grinder to fit the cap, seals it with Sikaflex polyurethane, and secures it without drilling new holes. To facilitate the installation, the crew uses temporary lines attached to the cat head to pull the mast forward, allowing the middle stay to be connected. After securing the mast cap and stays, Ben finds the backstay tensioner remains too loose, indicating that the stay requires shortening to achieve proper tension. The crew also demonstrates an improvised method for filling water tanks by running a hose through a cabin window and manually accessing the tanks under the floorboards.
