What this video covers

Installation of a compression post backing plate in the forward locker of a catamaran requires precise surface preparation and reliable adhesive application. After an initial attempt failed due to a broken caulking gun and expired, pre-cured adhesive, the crew successfully bonded the aluminium plate using a new applicator and fresh methacrylate. The installation process involved decoring the foam core around the mounting area, filling the void with thickened resin for structural integrity, and sealing the stainless steel bolts with 3M 4200 to prevent galvanic corrosion between the fasteners and the 6061-grade aluminium plate. The crew also reinforced the helm station by glassing it into the cabin top with 12-ounce double-bias fibreglass and a high-density core to withstand the loads from the mainsail winches. When spray equipment failed during the application of high-build primer in the head, the crew achieved a smooth finish by applying three coats of paint with a roller. Proper temperature control, maintained by propane and oil radiator heaters, remains essential for ensuring resin and paint cure correctly in winter conditions.
