Tim installs a custom stainless steel solar arch and integrated stern railing on *Into the Mystic* to replace existing safety lines and cables. To mount the arch, he drills holes through the tow rail and installs backing plates, using a "straw trick"—inserting straws into the holes and coating them with anti-seize—to precisely mark the plate alignment.4:53 After tack-welding the arch to the plates, he removes it to complete the welds, using water to protect the deck from sparks and a blanket to block wind during the process.9:33 He also removes the original stanchions, cleans out rotted wood, and fills the holes with thickened West Systems epoxy before re-drilling to ensure a secure mount for the new stainless tubing.8:12 The project includes repairing faulty wiring for the stern light and adding a new stanchion to support the modified railing configuration.16:42 The installation successfully integrates the arch with the stern and side railings, providing a rigid structure for future seating additions.19:57
