Old Diesel Heater Finally Dead | New Webasto Installed

What this video covers

Dave replaces a 25-year-old failed diesel heater aboard Zephyr IV, a Westerly Yachts Ltd. Oceanquest 35, with a new Webasto unit at the start of the sailing season.0:08 The original heater completes its startup sequence then shuts down; Webasto suppliers confirm it is beyond serviceable life.0:15 The replacement is a complete kit including a new wiring harness, exhaust system, and fuel pipe — the harness alone accounts for nearly half the kit's weight. Access to the heater, buried in a stern locker, is severely restricted; the fuel tank tap and flexible fuel feed tubing run from the tank through the locker to the unit, and the exhaust skin fitting must also be replaced. A rusted exhaust clamp requires cutting off before the old unit can be removed. The seller estimated three days for the job; Dave notes that estimate is optimistic. Wiring, fuel line, exhaust pipe, and the heater itself are all swapped out. After days of work in the confined locker space, the new Webasto fires up and heats the boat. Replacing a Webasto in a stern locker with restricted access takes significantly longer than a straightforward bench estimate suggests.
