The Bavaria Yachts 36 is a 1998–2000 masthead sloop designed by J&J Yacht Design, measuring 11.6 meters LOA with a fin-and-bulb keel and spade rudder. It displaces 5360 kg and was later renamed the Bavaria 37. Aboard *Nova Vita*, the crew completed a 28-day, 2,530-mile Atlantic crossing from Saint Martin to Horta, Faial, encountering squalls with 30-knot winds and extended calms that required motoring. During this passage, the wind vane snapped, and a mainsail tear occurred, which the crew temporarily repaired.13:03 A damaged shroud was also repaired at sea with Dyneema, eye bolts, and shackles, forcing the crew to sail with a third reef and avoid heavy rig loading, extending the passage duration.18:58 The crew also experienced a failing Raymarine instrument system, which they temporarily fixed. *Nova Vita* has sailed extensively in the Outer Hebrides, the Firth of Clyde, and the Caribbean, including passages between Dominica, Guadeloupe, and the Azores. The crew uses non-slip mats and baskets to secure interior items and has tested a DIY intercom system for docking.12:57 A Lofrans Cobra windlass motor failed after 14 months of service, requiring a dive to clear a fouled anchor in Horta.2:02
