The Beneteau 57 is a fractional sloop designed by Farr Yacht Design, built by Beneteau from 2002 to the present, with a fin bulb and spade rudder hull. It measures 17.8 meters LOA, 4.9 meters beam, 2.6 meters draft, and displaces 22,055 kg; a shallow draft version draws 2.1 meters. Aboard *Flight Level Zero*, Chris and Karmen purchased their Beneteau 57, *Vanishing Point*, in Brisbane, Australia, due to favorable exchange rates and the boat's mechanical condition, which included a hard top and overhauled systems.4:05 They shipped the boat to Ensenada, Mexico, for a refit, including hull painting and stainless steel polishing, using a Marshall Islands flag to avoid U.S. import tariffs.33:37 During the refit, a rudder bushing needed replacement, and a loose bobstay eye bolt required a custom plate.1:11 The crew sailed *Vanishing Point* from Los Angeles to San Diego for rig tuning after its transport, encountering 15–16 knots of wind and choppy seas on the return.24:12 An electric headsail furler stalled mid-passage to Catalina Island when furled under load but resumed operation after the sail was unloaded.5:03 The galley stove's glass panel shattered from heat while cooking.7:32
