The Swan 37 is a 1970–1974 Sparkman & Stephens-designed masthead sloop, built by Nautor, with a fin keel and rudder on skeg, intended for IOR 1-ton racing. It measures 11.1 meters LOA, with a 3.2-meter beam, 1.9-meter draft, and displaces 6985 kg. Some boats were delivered with a taller rig, and the design was also sold as the Palmer Johnson 37. Aboard *Elixir*, Max Campbell sailed halfway around the world, completing a circumnavigation from the UK to New Zealand, with a COVID-forced seven-month pause in the Canary Islands.12:43 Campbell undertook a refit in New Zealand, installing dual chart plotters, AIS, radar, a new electronic autopilot, and Battle Born lithium batteries, and overhauled the Volvo Penta engine.28:08 He also replaced a leaking Vetus forepeak hatch, re-insulated the fridge box, and installed a Schenker watermaker. *Elixir* completed a 19-day, 5,000-mile Pacific crossing from French Polynesia to Hawaii, encountering 20-knot trade winds and heavy seas, and an 18-day, 2,700-mile passage from Hawaii to Port Townsend, Washington, in cold, damp fog.7:29 The crew addressed chronic leaks during the voyage, planning a major refit of the deck, hatches, and re-caulking.11:15
