PREPARATION AND TUNING

What this video covers

A boat owner fabricates and installs custom steel engine mounts to accommodate a new, more compact engine. Because the existing engine bed is not square, the builder constructs adjustable steel brackets using flat bar cut and welded to match the specific, non-90-degree angle of the hull supports. After pre-drilling 3mm pilot holes, the builder mounts the 300kg engine to verify alignment with the propeller shaft and the cutlass bearing.8:23 Once the fit is confirmed, the mounts are removed for surface preparation, including cleaning with acetone and applying a rust-inhibitor (Ferose). Due to low ambient temperatures, the builder moves the painting process inside the boat, using a 2000-watt heater to maintain a temperature suitable for applying three coats of paint.12:42 The project concludes with the cleaning of the original Vetus stuffing box, which the builder prefers over modern mechanical seals for its reliability and ease of maintenance. The final steps involve cutting the propeller shaft to the required 1.20-meter length and installing the stuffing box with new packing.
