What the fleet has seen

The Beneteau Oceanis 440, as the fleet has seen it

Derived from the videos the fleet has analysed of this model. ▶ marks open the moment aboard.

The Beneteau Oceanis 440 is a 13.7-meter masthead sloop designed by Bruce Farr, sharing its hull with the Beneteau First 45f5 and built by Beneteau from 1990 to the present. With a wing keel and a displacement of 9298 kg, it has been sold under the Moorings and Stardust brands as well. Aboard *Vie d'écume*, a solo sailor completed a 150-nautical-mile passage from Antigua to Marigot, Saint-Martin, averaging 5.3 knots despite variable winds and 20-knot squalls, using a tablet-based app to monitor anchor hold in anticipation of 35-knot winds. The same boat, *Corail*, transited the Chambly Canal in Quebec, navigating multiple locks and bridges in thick fog, briefly touching bottom in mud near a bridge.3:49 Its crew also undertook an overnight passage from Martinique to Les Saintes, Guadeloupe, setting two reefs in 22-knot winds and maintaining rotating watches.10:01 Another passage from Martinique to Saint-Martin was undertaken to reset the boat's residency status in French overseas territories, requiring a 4.4 to 5.2-knot average speed with a fouled hull.31:09 The owner of *Vie d'écume* in Martinique performs maintenance, including installing a new radar reflector, treating teak with oxalic acid, and cleaning the interior, while sourcing a new lazy bag due to the existing one's excessive windage.0:51
