The Cape DORY 30C is a 9.2-meter cutter-rigged sailboat with a full keel, designed by Carl Alberg and built by Cape Dory Yachts from 1976 to 1987. It displaces 4535 kg with a 1.3-meter draft and 2.7-meter beam. Aboard *Atom Voyager*, a Cape DORY 30C named *Flying Spur* underwent a comprehensive refit after a Bahamas cruise, including replacing a failed diesel engine with a 9.9 hp Yamaha outboard, with a 10 kW electric motor under consideration. The refit also involved installing a manual anchor windlass, replacing glued non-skid pads with painted non-skid, and building a custom hard dodger.1:57 The staysail boom was removed for a loose-footed sail, and leaking plastic water tanks were slated for replacement with larger fiberglass integral tanks. *Atom Voyager* also removed seven unused through-hulls from a Cape DORY 30C, including toilet intakes, engine cooling seacocks, cockpit drains, and transducers, patching the holes with biaxial fiberglass cloth and epoxy.0:06 The same crew removed fiberglass hull liners to increase interior storage and improve access to the hull-to-deck joint, replacing the v-berth liner with watertight compartments and lowering the chain locker floor.1:16 A custom solar arch was built for *Flying Spur* using 1¼-inch anodized aluminum pipe and Speed Rail fittings, designed to clear the wind vane and carry two 200-watt and two 100-watt solar panels to support an electric propulsion conversion.0:24
